i live in NJ... here ... if you are 16 or younger, your parents or legal guardians must sign your marriage license.
if you are old enough...anyone can be your witness. if you read the fine print next to the witness signature.. all it says is something along the lines of ';i know these two people who wish to marry and testify that they are not related and know that neither of them are illegal aliens.';
call the county you live in. you will have to anyway to obtain the forms. or you can google it. anyway...once you have the application..just make sure to read all the fine print (there isn't a lot).. and this way you will know you are doing the right thing.
when in doubt....JUST ASK!!!!! it's the only way to find out!!
good luck!
all the best :)Is it mandatory that the 2 of the witnesses have to be parents of either bride or groom when register marriage?
In the US or Canada or the UK or most places in Europe, the witnesses must be of legal age. They can be anyone , even the clerk at the courthouse or the taxi driver. As long as both the bride and groom are of legal age in the state or province where they are being married! If you are MINORS, then, yes, your parents have to approve and sign!! If you are both adults, then once the marriage officiant confirms your identity and licence and proof of age, so long as someone signs as witness that the marriage took place, that's all that is needed. HOWEVER -- by your name I am wondering if you are enquiring more about marriages within your religious community and you want a religious ceremony. (Hindu? Sikh?) In that case, there might be restrictions that you will have to call to enquire about from a mosque.
You have to have your parents there if you are underage so they can agree to the marriage but if you are over the age of 18 then your fine , sometimes a lot of places give a witness that's what happened to me and my Husband.
Not all states require a witness and no where does it say the witnesses have to be parents or even related to either of you. They can be someone you pulled off the street if you wanted.
no! where do these ideas come from? as long as you are of legal age to marry your parents have nothing to do with it. you can grab two strangers off the street to be witnesses if you wanted to.
Not in the United States. But it might be different for different countries. In the US, a witness can be anyone who was present at the time the wedding took place.
No. What if the parents are dead of 5 states away? It can be anyone who is a friend.
No, witnesses do not need to be parents.
it doesn't matter who the witnesses are. How do you think people elope?
It does not have to be the parents.
