What are the benefits of marriage in modern society?

I don't mean to sound negative. But since divorce rate is so high, and people cheat on each other on daily basis. (Men normally have to pay through their nose if they get a nasty divorce, not to mention child support, etc) What are the real benefits to get married nowadays? What are the benefits of marriage in modern society?
Divorce rates are really no higher now than they were thirty years ago. That's a ';modern society'; myth! That said, take marriage out of the equation, and guess what? People will still cheat on one another, and men will still have to pay child support. Not being married still makes you responsible for children and infidelity. So that makes no difference whatsoever.

So what IS the benefit of marriage, then? For one thing, it is a public commitment, without which, you can never be sure (legally) if your signficant other is going to bail on you. It is legal protection, and emotional commitment from your partner. There is nothing wrong with that, high divorce rates or not. Frankly, I don't think there is anything wrong with high divorce rates. Sometimes marriages work out. Sometimes they do not. It is no different than with other relationships. But if you commit yourself to a person for a significant amount of years, don't you want to be protected if they DO cheat or bail out on you? That is the benefit of marriage in a modern society.

And don't forget, for every marriage that ends in divorce, another one succeeds. The divorce rate is around 50%. That was true 30 years ago. It's still true today. For those that are in the right 50%, it has been proven that people in a healthy marriage live longer, have less stress, and do better financially. That's quite a big benefit.

As far as child support is concerned, it's a must. If you have a baby, you are responsible for that baby. It doesn't matter if you are married or not. The child needs to be cared for. That is the purpose of child support. If a guy doesn't want to take care of a baby, then he should keep ';it'; in his pants. What are the benefits of marriage in modern society?
I work with teens every day. When a kids parents are married and stable, they really tend to do much better. Their confidence is greater, they open up more and take more chances. When they come from a more unstable situation, like divorce or a blended family, they tend to withdraw and just do the minimum they need to do to stay out of trouble. Kids are very highly sensitive to the level at which their parents have structured a family life, and when their parents lose faith, so do they.

So, my answer is, it helps to create stability for the next generation. That some people mess this up shouldn't cause those of us who believe in strong families to give up.
-Sex on a regular basis

-Having a partner

-Sharing goals

-Creating children

-2 incomes

-Often better standard of living
Are you talking about marriage or business?
Tax breaks I guess?
