Is a Muslim marriage valid if no marriage certificate was issued?

My daughter married an Egyptian, he wants to move to Egypt to live soon, as he says that he would not be allowed to live in Britain permanently. If he has an English wife, does that no entitle him to apply for permanent residency in the uk? We are worried about her moving to Egypt as the life style is so different, she does not really want to go, since meeting him she has converted to a Muslim, which I do not think she really likes, and he makes her wear hijabs and cover up completely. Is a Muslim marriage valid if no marriage certificate was issued?
A verbal marriage infront of two or more witnesses is valid per religion %26amp; society in Egypt but in the eyes of law NO its not.

Your daughter will need valid marriage certificate attested by local authorities as well as certified by British Embassy in Egypt to have her husband spousal visa stamped on his passport.

Good luck.Is a Muslim marriage valid if no marriage certificate was issued?

From the sound of it it's a valid marriage under Sharia law but not a valid marriage under British law. Was some kind of paper signed by both parties? It's not legally valid if not.

And I warn you that Muslim men who marry a non-Muslim woman and are so eager to return to their home country are often authoritarian and abusive, and you might never see your daughter again if she goes.

Your daughter's husband is certainly a good candidate for that kind of personality if he's already had her convert to Islam and ';makes'; her cover up. To cover up for religious reasons is normally (and ideally) done by Muslim women out of religious conviction, not under obligation from their husbands... Of course that rarely happens in the real world but that your daughter's husband is already making her cover up is a tell-tale sign of bad things to come.
This sounds like on the grounds of forced marrige. Are you allowed contact with her. If so be coi and have them over for dinner and talk to her secretly and ask if she has been forced or abused or anything illegal. If so call the athorities or have a relative call out of the way of the husband. If you feel anything isnt going right then call the authorities. Without a certificate it isnt valid so she has a right to not go.
What are you talking about?

Why in the hell would an english woman marry someone whom she does not like...converting to islam...which 'you' do not 'think she likes....its all in your head.' There is no such thing as a MUSLIM MARRIAGE! All marriages are marriages...and a marriage certificate has to be issued. Smart ***.

Ingham: If the American government and Israel would stop putting their noses in everyones ***, mainly muslims, they would be able to provide to have a normal way of life. Are you aware that UAE is a muslim country? How many americans and british people live there? How well they are treated and how well they get paid? How much they are respected? How successful that country is? Guess not.
Having an Islamic community in the UK is a disaster and this is simply one more reason. It seems sad to me that Islam has failed to provide a decent way of life for it's people, then millions come to the UK to take advantage of what we have built. I believe this is a fair point, other groups moving into the now UK in the past were small numbers of successful European people An overcrowded island does not need millions from failed far distant countries.
if he is making her cover up in the UK and she doesn't like it i can only assume that things will be even worse when he gets her back to egypt

it is a pity women don't see more of the consequences of marrying men from vastly different societies - if she was my daughter i would not want her to go with him
I would worry.

The movie, based on a true story, Not Without My Daughter who gets involved with a muslim man, they move back to his country, and she looses all her rights, and her husband holds their child hostage to keep her, very scary.
HE MAKES HER? There is no compulsion in Islam - from what the Muslims say. . .if she wears hijab - it should be by her will, to please Allah.

I'm not Muslim. . .so, I tried.
A verbal marriage is not worth the paper it is written on.
You are asking two questions at the same time!

His entitlement to live permanently in UK?

He will be entitled to apply for permanent visa ';only'; if he is legally married to your daughter according to UK laws. This means that he had a properly conducted marriage in an approved building and then got an official marriage certificate from the registrar. Unless the marriage was formally registered, he is not legally married and can not apply for a settlement visa as a spouse of a UK national. As there is a large Muslim community in UK, so even many mosques are now approved to cunduct such ceremonies and civil marriage certificates are also issued.

Your second question is validity of Muslim marriage.

This is a separate issue. A purely ';Muslim'; marriage, also called ';Nikah'; is a private affair. It is a simple agreement between man and woman in front of two witnesses. No written certificate is necessary. As per Islamic rules, after such ';Nikah'; they are husband and wife. However, this is not a legal marriage in UK and will remain a private affair between them until and unless such religious marriage is followed by a duly registered civil marriage for which a proper certificate is issued. If this ';muslim'; marriage also has no written proof at all, then how is he going to prove it even in Egypt?

As for your concern that she converted to a Muslim but really doesn't like it !!

It is entirely her own decision to convert. If she did so, just to please him and for the sake of marriage, then surely it has no meaning. She has to have faith in this also. If he forces her to wear hijab (against her will) then surely it is wrong and this means she will have more problems when she moves to another country.

Wearing Hijab and covering completely is a cultural thing ! nothing to do with Islam, and a misconception amongst many Muslim communities. You can at least advise her to study the religion herself, and not to ask him! This way she will know what to accept and what not to!

Hope this helps.

Good luck!
