Why does Israel forbid the marriage between a Jew and an Arab?

Before 1947 it was not considered wrong for these mixed marriages and even helped with Israeli and Palestinians relations. Why do Israel do this now.? Just what are they afraid of ? Is there any other country in the world that forbids a marriage between 2 different faiths.?Why does Israel forbid the marriage between a Jew and an Arab?
Why does Israel forbid the marriage between a Jew and an Arab? This law makes sense in that it prevents any blurring of the line between friend (Jew) and enemy ( Arab). It also shows the world that Israel is a racist state.

Is there any other country in the world that forbids a marriage between 2 different faiths.? In 1933 in Nazi Germany, a law was enacted that banned marriage between Germans and Jews. This is a direct Parallel with Israel. Why does Israel forbid the marriage between a Jew and an Arab?
Oh lookee- the anti-Semite chose an anti-semitic answer. Handsup anybody that is surprised! LOL

Because all marriages in Israel are religious, not civil, and must be Orthodox. Does that make it simple for you? Oh, and by the way:

Most Muslims in Israel are Sunni Arabs.

In 1922, the British created the Supreme Muslim Council as the Muslim religious authority in the British Mandate of Palestine and appointed Amin al-Husayni (1895-1974) as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. The council was abolished in 1948 by Jordan, but was reconstituted in Jerusalem after the Six-Day War in 1967.

As the law of the land in relation to marriages has formally remained the Islamic law prior to the establishment of the State of Israel, it was not necessary for the Muslim community to formally ';accept'; these arrangements.

Muslim marriages are conducted in accordance with Islamic law and customs, and inter-community marriages are not permitted.

So much for the liberality of your beloved ';Palestinians';.
I completely agree with you in regards to Israel. Thanks for bringing this up because I hadn't known of this before your question

Actually, I visited Malaysia last year for a friend's marriage

The Groom is Muslim and the Bride was Christian.

Under Malaysian Law a Christian (woman- not sure if it applies to men)can not marry a Muslim unless she converts first.

This is actually contrary to Islamic law because under Islamic law a Muslim male can marry any person ';of the Book';, meaning he can marry a Christian or a Jew and the woman doesn't have to convert at all. She can remain a Christian or a Jew.

So actually, the Israelis forbidding the 2 faiths to marry is even worse than that.

If it was legal in Israel for 2 faiths to marry than Arab and Jewish blood would mix.

To me it suggests that they want to keep Israel as non-arab as possible.

I think if it was legal, you would see some Jews and Muslims marry each other.

My cousin who is Muslim actually married a New York Jewish lady (very lovely woman).

This just another example of Israel's brutal and Im afraid to say this but racist treatment of Palestinians
You're doing this strange thing of mixing up ethnicity and religion. Are you doing that intentionally or do you just not understand the difference?

Israel doesn't have civil marriage, only religious. All marriage and divorce is governed by the religious courts of the respective groups (15 altogether). The positive side is that legislation passed by Jews (or anyone else) couldn't inadvertently interfere with the way other religious groups want to hold their marriages. The downside is that there is no provision for people who aren't one of the recognized religious groups. This is more of a problem for non-Orthodox Jews than it is for Muslims or Christians, btw, which shows your question as the inflammatory straw man it is.

Most countries base their marriage law on the beliefs of their dominant religious group; all other religions have to work with that. Israel made an attempt to let the groups decide for themselves. The system is flawed, but at least give them credit for the attempt.
You are wrong- an Arab Jew and an Israeli Jew can get married and everyone will bless the union.

What is not recognised in Israel uis any marriage between a Jew and person fo a different religion- regardless of the persons ethnicity or religion. Its universal- marriage between peopel fo different religions re not recognised in Israle irrespective of ethnic or religious lines

Do try to get your facts straight instead fo trying to promulgate hate!
It doesn't.

No person can be prosecuted for getting married to a person of another religion in Israel.

Israel recognizes all religious marriages performed in Israel (these do not include mixed marriages), and all marriages performed outside Israel in countries that recognize them (these include mixed marriages and same-sex marriages).
Israel does not forbid the marriage between a Jew and an Arab !.

(An Arab can be of any religion, a Jew is one who abides by the laws of the Torah.)

Marriage between a Jew and a none Jew is not considered against the law BUT in Israel there are no civil marriages, so a Jew wanting to marry a none Jew Arab would more than likely get married in Cypress..
It's not a tradition Michael. It's a law that they have had for thousands of years.

It came about by God's decree when they entered the promised land and it will continue to be so until the second coming of the Christ. ( A Jewish Rabbi while He was with us I might add)

The reasoning is simple, and straightforward. When the Hebrews were given the land by God He told them not to intermarry for the good reason of ';influence';.

A man with a woman who worshipped Astarte'. Or a woman with a man who worshipped Baal? That's an influence that would take them away from God. That is not what God wants for us. He wants us to succeed and the ultimate success is living with God Himself in His Kingdom.

When He said He is a jealous God He was telling us that He does not want some fool idol rock, or mute wood piece, or a deaf stone, to steal us away from Him as it would ultimately lead to our death.

He wants us to live.

He wants us to live for Him and then for everyone else but the evil we have to live in..... that would be the false gods of mythical proportions regardless of what civilization we find the false idols. The evil we live in should be rebuffed and we should protect ourselves from the false idols. Regardless of what false idol we worship be it gold, sex, or power.

So to protect their heritage and to protect them He let them know that married into an alien family is a no no. However; should the man or the woman of desire becomes a Jew? Well then there is no counter productive influence on the marraige and God now is there?

So should an ';Arab'; take to the Jewish religion to marry it would not be wrong.

As for the Muslim laws on marraige. You haven't read the fine print of Sharia law now have you? Because quite frankly they kill women in the mid east almost on a daily basis for their own honour. A woman married to an infidel would be a horrifying disgrace and murder for their own honour is usually the antidote to their disgrace. An infidel is anyone who is not a Muslim and for a Muslim to change his/her religion is an apostasy that garners a death warrant on them.

Don't tell me that doesn't happen, don't refute that with requests for sources because you won't take the time to research it yourself.

It happens regularly; I read about it here in Canada, and in the United States in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, in Jordan and in Egypt as well as Syria and the other Islamic states.

It's damn near common knowledge these days.
I'm sure there are a lot of Muslim men who refuse to let their daughters marry non-Muslim men. Jews aren't the only ones who can be racist or intolerant of other religions.

Can you please give us a link that explains this? I would like to see something official that states the israeli government doesn't allow Jews to marry Arabs. Some answers below say this is not true.
its cuz of the formation of the state of israel, after that people from the two countries got into a war for terriory and they have been hating eachother since that. before that they were happy living tho :)
It depends on the Rabbis-Orthodox Jews strictly prohibit it.Steve Jobs co-founder of Apple computer is half Arab/half Jewish-obviously, there was a connection made.
This Jewish dude I know married an Arab girl a year ago - didn't have any problems. Your sources please?
If you really want to find out about this question, in yahoo answers there is a section on religion go there and post your question. a jewish person will answer the question.
Because someone will probably start a pie fight at the reception
The same reason the Indians forbid marriage of Indians and Pakistanis. The same reason European countries forbid marriage with muslim immigrants.

Differences in culture.
