I often hear things like:
dating is fun
once you've had your fun, you can find someone to settle down with
vs
marriage is work.
= dating is fun and marriage is work. It's a dry question and it seems simply but could we say this is ';generally'; true.In terms of dating and marriage is this generally true?
I wouldn't even say that it had to be marriage. Any long-term relationship is work. Dating is fun because you are not tied to this person. If they make you mad, get on your nerves, or have a weird family...you can be done with them. In a relationship, you have chosen that it is worth the time and the occasional headache to stay with this person. It is work because you have to dig deep into yourself and look deep into that person for it to be long lasting. You have to work to get past any issues that may arise. To be in a marriage, you want it to be long lasting, life long even.
However, it (marriage or long lasting relationship) is easier in the sense that this person knows you. It is okay that you have bad hair in the morning. It is okay that you walk around in your hole ridden pajamas all day every now and then, cause you feel like it. This person knows that you love pizza with everything on it, except onions. This person knows that you only have one pair of underwear left that have a waistband left in em and pick you up a pack of your best wearing brand on the way home from work.
Dating is fun because it is ever changing. Marriage is ever changing too. You just aren't changing the person every few weeks.
I say...date around while you are young...through your younger 20s maybe. Get that party bone out of your system. Once you are ready to grow up and settle down a little, marriage is definitely the way to go.In terms of dating and marriage is this generally true?
The reason people say marriage is when you settle down is because people get lulled into this false sense of security when it comes to marriage.
There is no reason why you can't have just as much as you did when you were dating, but because people thing that marriage is written in stone, they forget all the fun they have when they were dating.
Dating is not always fun. Being young, free, independent, and self-supporting is fun (but sometimes lonely). Being married is a lot of work if you're in it for the long haul. But if you married the right person it can be an amazing fun ride.
