Why do you seem unable to understand a simple definition like -
BIGOT – One who is intolerant, especially regarding, religion, politics, sex or race.Why can atheists not understand gay marriage is impossible?
Most modern women would have nothing to do with marriage if it meant today what it meant a couple hundred years ago. In medevil times marriages were arranged by the parents and the two parties involved had no say over the matter, especially not the girl. Most girls were married when they were about 12-14 years old. When the marriage occured the father of the bride 'gave away' the girl. This was because children were considered property of their father. Marriage was about transfering the property rights from the father to the husband. It was not the romantic affair people think about now. It was simply a transfer of livestock, the same way a cow or goat was traded. A woman had no rights and simply had to do everything her husband told her. Remember the marriage vows were to, ';Love, Honor, and **OBEY**!'; A woman could be brutally punished for refusing to obey her husband. The term 'rule of thumb' originally refered to church law that said it was okay for a man to beat his wife with a branch so long as it was no thicker than his own thumb (sympathy for the women who were given to men with large hands). I could go on for several pages here, but I expect you should understand my point by now.
How is it impossible?
Gays can be married and words change over time.
For example, Gay didn't mean homosexual 60 years ago.
Also, why do you care if gays get married? Will 2 gay people getting married 1000 miles away impact your life at all? Will it endanger your marriage? Why is it your business what 2 consenting adults do?
Also, most atheists are opposed to all forms of bigotry, not just the gay marriage issue.
Who writes the dictionaries? We do, and we change the meanings of words all the time.
Gay used to mean happy. Think back to the Flintstones theme song, ';We'll have a gay old time!'; They weren't talking about homosexuality were they? Words change meaning to fit the times.

Perhaps not all do, but due to its religious linkage, and to the authority of the Bible, and the general anarchist spirit of atheism and its lack of an objective transcendent moral authority, then they are in league with homosexuals. You are mistaken.
The meaning of the word confers certain legal rights which some people would deny others because they have a different sexual orientation. Legal rights such as adoption status, income tax filing status, health care coverage status, inheritance status, etc.
Marriage is not determined solely by religion anymore. It is now legal in several states. Love or hate it, it is here to stay. It only defies the meaning of the word as defined by you.

Marriage is a secular legal contract between two consenting adults and the State.
The sexes of the parties involved is not relevant, and so same-sex marriage is no less ';possible'; than mixed-sex marriage.
They say the meaning of gay and marriage can change but if you change the definition of atheist as to be a religion then that is impossible and un true.
It's not impossible, it's possible in like 6 states now... And possibly D.C. soon.
