Better start getting used to it. It will change slowly, one state at a time, but eventually it will change. The state of Vermont is not saying that churches have to marry gay couples, only that the state recognizes their civil union.Vermont , the state for homosexual unions now, thinks they can call it Marriage ?
There are two aspects to marriage - the civil side and the religious side. A change to the civil side does not affect any church. Churches can still refuse to marry same-sex couples all they want. The state, on the other hand, has to recognize them.
Banning same-sex marriage for no other reason than religious dicta is an unconstitutional mix of church and state.
There are two kinds of marriage.
One is defined religiously, and one legally.
They can make the legal definition anything they want in their state.
