Why are some people against gay marriage?

first of all, Im a liberal. If people dont believe in gay marriage then I suggest they dont get one. Why stop others from being happy? Why are some people against gay marriage?
Pure ignorance and homophobia. Why are some people against gay marriage?
Many reasons. In the first place, churches are concerned about Biblical dictates on homosexual. If it is considered an abomination, how can they allow it in their church? You have people who are uncomfortable with the gay lifestyle as they see it from some of the more flamboyant examples like leather bar types, butch females, and other exhibitionist trends. You have the concern over pederasty or underage males being solicited. Culture, family upbringing, sensationalism in the news over closeted gays being outed all contribute to the unease over gay marriage. The final straw is the perceived militancy of gay activists who bring out the ire of conservative voters.
personally, i dont believe in gay marriage because i am a christian and in the bible, god clearly states that marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman.

also even not thinking from a biblical standpoint, obviously its not meant to be i mean the way our bodies are designed, a man and a man cant have kids and a woman and a woman cant either. it takes a man and a woman to properly run and make a family.
money. they can say that it's wrong all they want but gay marriage would allow for more tax breaks, people to be covered under insurance, eligible for pensions, property to be exchanged on the partners death with minimal taxes being paid. they would have no way of stopping two men from getting married just for benefits, like straight couples can. there are a few uptight conservatist, but the others on the bandwagon are people with money who want to keep it that way. the fact is you cant look at someone and tell that they are married so how can it bother you? instead of trying to define marriage as between man and woman, because that only defines how to make a baby, they should just have a legal attachments for both gay and straight, because the drama to get a divorce has nothing to do with love
Gay marriage totally destroys the very fabric of society, which is the family. When a gay couple adopt a child, don't you think he/shes going to develop psychological problems when they come to age and notice that he/she's the only person with two mommy's or daddy's? How about when all the kids in middle and high school find out you have two mommy's or daddy's. Don't you think all the other children will make fun of them? I'm not going to elaborate on this anymore because so many more things could happen.

%26lt;br%26gt;On the other hand, GO OBAMA!
well, i guess--speaking for myself--i'm against gay marriage because i believe homosexuality is not healthy for anyone. it's generally caused by emotional damage caused to that individual--which is then transferred into the homosexual lifestyle. for instance--if a man hits a woman, it's generally because of emotional problems or training that he's seen that causes him to be that way--and because it's natural for him to do it--i would in no way condone it. homosexuality is not normal--i've seen an 18 year old boy date a 40+ man and a 50+ man--they all dated each other. is that normal?--i wouldn't even condone an 18 year old girl to do that. drugs make people happy too, should we make that legal as well?

now don't get me wrong, i in NO way hate homosexuals. i know many of them, and enjoy most of them! i just don't agree w/ the lifestyle--will i judge them? no, because i have my flaws as well. i'm going to deal w/ myself, before i deal w/ them. however, i do believe that marriage is God ordained between a man and a woman--and by making it a man to a man, or a woman to a woman, i believe it's making a mockery of that. on top of that, most places where homosexual marriage is made legal, NO ONE gets married any more. it's actually considered abnormal. why ruin marriage for everyone? sorry about the muddled up thought process--it's a lot to try to explain in one paraphraph.
We're guaranteed the right to the PURSUIT of happiness; not the acquisition of it.

Some things are the way they are and weren't ever meant to change. A long, long, long time ago when free states wanted to break away from the church and conduct their own weddings, the church feared that, outside of the purview of God, the institution of marriage would someday be tainted, altered or otherwise perverted.

They were right... and we're living in an age where the sanctity of marriage is almost a laughable concept. It's been forever ruined by those who wish to bend and twist marriage to suit them and make them happy.

I'm not a big believer in ';if you don't like the game, then change the rules.';

I'm more of a ';if you don't like the game, don't play'; kind of guy.
The one thing so-called ';values voters'; have in common is the belief that they have the right to tell others what to do or not do. They believe that because their magic book says something, everyone else should have their own rights restricted. Completely immoral.

This isn't a Christian country. Christianity isn't the state religion. Please keep your superstitions out of my government.
Last time I looked.. the foundation of this country is that all persons are entitled to believe as they choose. Meaning, those against gay marriage are just as entitled to what they believe, as you are.

Where this runs into conflict.. is the idea that just because I believe (or don't believe) something.. none of us have the authority to do whatever we like. That is where law/government and legislators come in to the topic. Legislators are those elected to make our laws for the benefit of the whole country. There will ALWAYS BE PERSONS who disagree with what the law is. Watch this section, for example, for the many 16 yr olds, whining to get emancipated, or pissed because pot has not yet been legalized (as they think it should be).

Right at this moment in time, the issue of gay marriage is in conflict. It is not yet resolved. For example.. is it right that gay persons demand that the law be changed to their preferences, despite the number of persons who feel that it is immoral or wrong? I am not attempting to give you statistics either way.. just giving something to think about. You may feel that the number who approve of it, is in the majority. Others feel that your views are in the minority.

My point is simple that, for the time being, it is not yet legal. It may or may not become legal, I wont' try to guess that one.

But, just a response to your ';why are people against it??';. They are against it, for the very same reasons you are for it. They are exercising their right to freedom of belief.

It does need to be a matter of mutual respect for the beliefs of any other person.
The quetion is why they want to get a gay marriage, why they don't choose other name like union gay. the problem is that the christian marriage is something for women and men. they have to choose other name and live togheter, but don't try to do the same of christian people.
I agree with you.

The only reason they are really against it is because it would legitimize Gay people and their relationships. There by taking one more piece of fear away from them.

Any other argument you hear tonight will be justification for their hate, and not a real argument.
Buff me is the biggest hypocrite here

they deserve happiness as much as the rest of us, the hypocrites who preach for equality but refuse to let gays marry need to be judged to the highest degree

i'm not gay but i have gay friends and they deserve happiness, god wants us to find happiness, not be hypocrites of his word so people accept it or shut up, you just want their happiness in your world
It all comes down to religion. People are against it because they have been taught that it is a sin. What they don't seem to understand is it has nothing to do with religion. It's about basic civil rights. Many religions don't recognize divorce, but that doesn't stop it from being legal. We don't need some archaic mythology to tell us what's right or wrong, just basic common sense.
Cultural or personal prejudice. Marriage in our society confers rights and responsibilities. If two persons love each other enough to commit to the responsibilities they should have the rights that go along with it.
i am totally against gay marriage. i have no problem with them living together forever and being happy. but to legally marry, NO

Although, if i WAS gay i would want the legal right to marry, so i do understand how gays feel
i think it might be because you getting married with in the bible but its a sin?? i dont get why its such a big deal. We are all human and its not like one of you are a different specie. Why not just have a ceramony to confirm your love for each other.
because it is wrong and if there is gay marriage then guys would be walking in the streets kissing and that is totally disgusting. also kids shouldn't see that stuff.
Frankly, it is just incomprehensible to the vast majority. Right or wrong, it is just incomprehensible. It turns them off and they feel estranged.
because they are saying that it wasn't in the bible and anything that wasn't there is wrong bottom line.. it sucks and people should have a choice but that's society!
Because some people are bigots, overly-religious, or ignorant of this country's laws. Until we as a society evolve, people will always be against gay marriage.
It may be against their religion, or some such. People are easily swayed by something as simple as a book all the time.
I think God put a man and women on this earth... NOt 2 men and not 2 women.

Simple as that

Oh yeah... and its GROSS !
The way they were raised

The way that they were taught

The ways of tradition
cause there generation, when they were kids they were thought to think that only man and woman go together. so this new concept is hard for them to accept
cuz its wrong its says so in the bible
Eh, I don't care, as long as it isn't me or something. People just find it weird, but, whatever.
coz for me it's immoral
bc there gay lol!!!!
