Legalizing gay marriage would allow the couple hospital visitation rights and choices in life or death situations concerning illness whether mental or physical. It would also allow Social Security benefits to the couple.

Legalizing gay marriage would uphold the first amendment and the Declaration of Independence. The first amendment includes freedom of religion without persecution. Since there are many religions which allow gay marriage (Buddhism for example), it would be persecution of another religion for Christians to tell non Christians who they can marry based on their Christian beliefs. It contradicts the Declaration of Independence which states that ';all men are created equal';, so that gay couples can be equal to other couples when it comes to benefits of marriage such as filing taxes jointly as a married couple.
Legalizing gay marriage would..........
Allow homosexuals to enjoy the legal, financial, and social benefits of marriage.
Encourage homosexuals to maintain monogamous relationships. This in turn would decrease the spread of sexually transmitted disease.
Increase the number of homosexual couples who could adopt children, thereby providing more orphans with permanent, stable homes.
Allow homosexuals to engage in one of the most important and time-honored institutions in the history of humankind.
These are just a few of the benefits to society in general and to homosexuals in particular. I'm sure there are many more.
By the way, I am a heterosexual white male libertarian. I'm not pro-homosexual, I'm pro-liberty. An attack on the rights of one group is an attack on us all. Liberty or death.
